Progressive Sealing offers a full range of sealing technologies and services designed to increase equipment uptime and reliability, specifically on rotating equipment, including pumps, blowers, motors, and agitators. Specializing in large, hard-to-seal applications, the Company serves customers across heavy equipment industries, including mining, water and wastewater, and paper and pulp.

“The key to success for any fluid sealing company is keeping the customers’ rotating equipment functional as long as possible. We ensure this by taking a holistic look at the equipment to understand what it does, how it is supposed to function, and why it is not performing to its fullest potential,” says Mike Burdick, president of Progressive Sealing. “Our team then delivers engineered solutions to resolve the issue and maximize efficiency.”

Progressive Sealing is uniquely positioned to serve its customers with exclusive distribution rights in Western Canada for the full line of A.W. Chesterton seal products. The company also has exclusive distribution rights for Enviroseal SpiralTrac Bushings and Inpro/Seal Bearing Isolators. In certain instances, Progressive Sealing customizes the products, utilizing its services division to deliver the right-fit solution to clients.

When it comes to the water/ wastewater industry, Progressive Sealing offers a Municipal Water and Wastewater Equipment Reliability Program designed to deliver system root cause failure analysis, reliability enhancement recommendations, and upgrades needed to increase equipment life, minimize wear, reduce water usage, and boost hydraulic efficiency.

For pulp and paper companies, Progressive Sealing enables the running of cleaner and leaner mills. It reduces storage costs, improves equipment uptime, increases Mean Time Between Repair (MTBR), and lowers production expenses by reducing water use. Progressive Sealing’s solutions can help mining companies by increasing pump sleeves, packing and bearing lifespan, and MTBR.
By leveraging high-quality parts, industry-leading technology, and over 150 years of cumulative industrial process experience, Progressive Sealing provides complete reliability enhancement for rotating equipment. With 42 years of experience in sealing rotating equipment, along with its inhouse engineering and machine shop capability, the company is equipped to deliver full assessment capability.

“If you have a pump, we can tear it down, and we can assess some of the problems it’s having and figure out how to make it work better,” says Nicholas Burdick, Service Center Manager at Progressive Sealing. “And then we can offer unique solutions that ensure better uptime with less maintenance.”

To enable these types of outcomes, Progressive Sealing works very closely with its vendors to supply the right solution for a given application. While it is not the lowest cost provider, the company’s unique solutions, tailor-made to fit a customer’s situation, can offer significant long-term benefits in terms of extending equipment life and reducing resource usage.

Over the last 20 years, a major focus at Progressive Sealing has been converting pumps to a flushless seal design. Burdick has seen examples of where shutting off flush water to a pump can save upwards of 2 million gallons of water a year.

Progressive Sealing helped a large local wastewater supplier that encountered problems with a specific pump model, including bearing failure and fluid leakage, due to the debris collected in the water. The Progressive Sealing team disassembled the pump, analyzed the problems, and put it together with new custom components designed in-house. These design improvements included new stuffing boxes, stronger stainless steel shaft material instead of cast iron, and a combination of Enviroseal SpiralTrac Bushings and A.W. Chesterton seal products for flushless application. The pump was upgraded with additional unique attributes that allowed for a much better flow and 5x improvement in terms of longevity and uptime.

By using a combination of the right devices, Progressive Sealing can offer a flushless solution to help clients save money and improve the effectiveness of their pumps. With a variety of approaches to choose from, the company offers solutions focused on cost-effectiveness and the highest quality.
