"Going global with sludge dewatering equipment"

Mr. Massimiliano Lagreca, Chairman , TEKNOFANGHI

Sludge Treatment Authority

Editor’s Note: Wastewater operators face increasing pressure to improve treatment efficiency while reducing environmental impact, operational costs and disposal burdens. This perspective is particularly relevant for utility and water management professionals seeking practical technologies that enhance sludge handling, support resource recovery and strengthen long-term sustainability outcomes.

Since its foundation in 1987, Teknofanghi is specialized in equipment for sludge handling, both for municipal and wastewater treatment plants.

The company is based on the outskirts of Milan / Italy, a modern factory having a total area of 7.000 m² (4.500 m² used for production and storehouse, while 1000 m² are reserved for the offices) and manufactures a range of equipment mainly for sludge thickening / dewatering and water filtration.

With more than 30 years of activity, TEKNOFANGHI has expanded its turnover and product range to cover most equipment used for sludge dewatering and is able to support its Clients with the know-how and the technical competence acquired over the years, with more than 12.000 units working all over the world.

In addition to internal technical and sales staff, there are agents and collaborators for the Italian territory and Exclusive Distributors for the foreign countries. This permits Teknofanghi to grant final Clients a constant presence on their territory, starting from the consulting phase during the choice of the best unit, up to the after-sales service.

Teknofanghi is sensible to the requests of the market that is continuously in evolution, and for this reason is constantly engaged in the studying, research and development of new equipment and applications.

For each product, the efforts of TEKNOFANGHI are to achieve the lowest LCC (Life Cycle Costs), the best use of recyclable materials and of the lowest possible energy consumption. This philosophy, together with the offered excellent relation of quality and price, has allowed a very fast penetration in all the markets of the world. In fact, today, the exported units make up 85% of the annual production, especially to developing countries which are expanding waste water treatment programs. Beyond the possibility to choose between the standard models, TEKNOFANGHI is able to supply customized solutions on the basis of the request of each single market or Client.

The range of TEKNOFANGHI technologies cover applications in Sludge Dewatering from very small plants to large municipal waste water treatment works and it includes:
- MONOBELT® patented belt filter press. Production started in 1994. It is the perfect combination between a rotary dynamic thickener and a belt filter press in a compact unit for the sludge treatment. Indicated for municipal and industrial WWPT. Capacity from 1 up to 140 m³/h per single unit. N°17 different models available.

- SCRUPRESS screw press. Production started in 2019. Screw press with a conical screw shaft and three stages wedge wire for sludge dewatering. Indicated for municipal and industrial WWTP. Capacity from 1 to 14 m3/h per single unit. N°4 different models available.

- SCRUDRAIN dynamic thickener. Production started in 1994. Archimedean rotary drum thickener indicated to be installed instead of static thickeners, or before dewatering machines (centrifuges, filter presses, belt filter presses etc.) to increase the capacity and the results in Dry Solids. Capacity from 2 up to 200 m³/h per single unit. N°6 different models available.

- TEKNOBAG®-DRAIMAD® patented sludge dewatering bag system. Production started in 1987. Available in manual, automatic, pressurized and package versions, it is indicated for small municipal and industrial WWTP, up to 200 kg/day of Dry Solids. N°26 different models available.

- POLYDILUTION polyelectrolyte preparation unit. Production started in 1987. A range of machines for the polyelectrolyte preparation and ageing available in a semi-automatic or fully automatic range, with powder or emulsion polyelectrolyte base. Capacity from 50 up to 6.000 L/h. N°9 different models available.

Teknofanghi is sensible to the requests of the continuously evolving market and, for this reason, is constantly engaged in the studying, research and developing of new equipment and applications

- SCRUFILTER® microfiltration unit. Production started in 2002. Fully automatic and continuous filtering system able to reduce fine suspended solids (including COD, BOD5, phosphorus, nitrates and other) from water down up to 20 microns. Capacity from 1 up to 60 m³/h per single unit. N°3 different models available.

- ACCESSORIES: wide range of accessories to be able to create a complete sludge treatment plant. Among the available accessories there are
TeknoMix+ inline dynamic mixer for sludge and polyelectrolyte mixing (capacity up to 200 m³/h - n°3 different models available), inline static mixer for sludge and polyelectrolyte mixing, progressive cavity pumps for sludge and polyelectrolyte, screw conveyors for the transport of dewatered sludge and flow meters.

All products are CE marked and the company is both ISO 9001:2015 and EAC certified.
