GRIDIRON: Unleashing the Potential of On-Site Power Generation
Tweet

Servers across the nation are humming with constant power, processing data in miraculous ways as they shuttle bits and bytes across the internet. Elsewhere, organizations of all sizes are heavily reliant on the grid for nearly all aspects of their day-to-day operations – such as hotels, restaurants and the like. As a result, the demand for energy needed to fuel modern-day businesses is increasing with each passing day. The industry is leaning into this need as it continues to plug in more electronic devices, challenging the existing electrical grid’s efficiency to meet this ever-growing need for more energy—a factor that drives up costs for all.

An innovator that takes the lead in helping businesses alleviate these challenges is GRIDIRON. The company provides organizations with a reliable, resilient, and secure solution to displace grid load while ensuring the consistent comfort and reliability their customers want. GRIDIRON’s on-site power generation solution allows companies to escape the current electrical grid and save money.

“Our micro-Combined Heat and Power (mCHP) unit, the PowerPlant H24, powers businesses at a price per kWh that is 40-60 percent less than the national average,” says Rachel Permut, Chief Strategy Officer at GRIDIRON. In addition, when combined with other green energy sources such solar PV, the solution provides a strong baseload of power 24/7 and adds resiliency to the smart grid design.

GRIDIRON’s mCHP technology uses natural gas engine technology to produce power and heat, wherein the heat is repurposed to enhance operational efficiency. It ensures lower cost, displaces more kWh per square foot, supplies heat to water and/or air sources, provides more kWs and longer resiliency during grid outages, and has considerably lower GHG emissions.

In addition to controlling their costs by generating cheaper energy onsite, the GRIDIRON system provides reliability for customers in case of grid outages by creating its own nanogrid. It offers a sustainable solution for future energy infrastructure as the emissions are significantly lower. GRIDIRON’s Powerplant H24, is a micro-combined heat and power system that gives businesses control over their electricity usage and bill, cutting their reliance on utilities to make upgrades for a smarter, more resilient grid.
The PowerPlant H24 unit connects directly to commercial buildings, providing prime power generation, and it automatically adjusts to demands by leveraging its unmatched load-following capabilities. When operating in parallel with the grid, the unit provides primary power and also operates islanded from the grid, providing power even during outages. Clients in remote locations can also leverage GRIDIRON’s PowerPlant H24 to produce energy based on their needs as it doesn’t rely on the grid to generate energy. Customers of GRIDIRON’s mCHP technology are no longer vulnerable to the grid or its failings while saving money with a lower price per kWh for energy.

Illustrating GRIDIRON’s excellence in helping clients is its collaboration with a national quick-serve restaurant chain in Michigan. The client was struggling with their increasing energy costs and frequent power outages. When GRIDIRON came on board and deployed its PowerPlant H24 unit, they were able to mitigate these challenges. The design displaced roughly 95 percent of the grid power and peak demand while providing a payback in roughly four years.

Success stories like these make GRIDIRON the go-to partner for various commercial businesses requiring smaller, modular, and more affordable solutions for decentralized energy. The 20 KW continuous/24 KW peak size can be used in smaller buildings that have been historically underserved in the distributed energy resource market. The Powerplant H24 is also sized according to the power needs first and the heat needs second, which is less common in the CHP market. GRIDIRON’s units are easily installed, compact, scalable, and ultra-quiet.

In order to build a sustainable energy future, decentralized energy resources need to be an accessible, realistic alternative for business owners. Demand for energy is only increasing while supply and distribution is lacking. GRIDIRON, its mCHP technology, and its nanogrid applications bring that necessary alternative to the market.
