Wastewater and water treatment facilities increasingly find innovative ways to adopt more circular operations by designing low or no waste solutions. An area that is piquing interest in that regard is biofilm-based wastewater treatment.

Aqwise – Global Environmental solutions (GES) collaboration, to build a global water group for sustainable future, is providing advanced solutions for the water and wastewater markets.

The Aqwise Biomass Carriers (ABC) media is the core element of Aqwise’s biological solutions portfolio. It is the result of a long product development process the company commenced two decades ago. The treatment process involves using communities of bacteria attached to the protected surface area of the carrier to create layers of active biofilm, which is used to efficiently remove pollutants from the wastewater - ideal for wastewater treatment. Biofilms are also self-renewing and far more cost-effective than conventional chemical and thermal wastewater treatments.

Aqwise is harnessing the power of biofilms and leading the change in developing sustainable wastewater treatment, water reuse solutions, and remediation techniques. Aqwise developed propriety in house technologies and expertise (MBBR, SBR, and more) to support its portfolio of solutions. Over the years Aqwise have created a tangible heritage of successful installations and projects across the globe.

“Our services range from basic process packages to full turnkey and cover all the phases of build-operate-transfer (BOT) projects for wastewater and water treatments,” says Moshe Shalem, CEO of Aqwise.

Aqwise and its subsidiary company, Aqana, offer innovative aerobic and anaerobic treatment technologies to assist clients in reducing water treatment’s environmental footprint while adhering to strict regulations.

Both aerobic and anaerobic wastewater solutions offered by Aqwise follow a strong and efficient biological process for organic matter removal while using smaller footprint. For aerobic treatments, Aqwise uses its proprietary Attached Growth Airlift Reactor (AGAR) technology that grows biofilm on carrier media to aerobically degrade soluble pollutants in wastewater.
What makes Aqwise’s aerobic treatments stand out is AGAR Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) where all biological activity takes place in the biomass carriers. It combines Aqwise’s advanced biomass carriers with highly efficient aeration and mixing system. It also eliminates the need to recycle sludge, increasing the removal rate and reducing cost and footprint. Combined with the AGAR IFAS (Integrated Fixed-Film Activated Sludge), AGAR MBBR can handle high organic/nitrogen loads and showcase high efficiency, even at low temperatures. This is a very efficient system for treating wastewater in bulk, such as high-load industrial and municipal applications.

Equally commendable is its anaerobic wastewater Downflow Anaerobic Carrier System (DACS). The biggest advantage of this solution is its by product, green biogas. Municipalities and small communities can use biogas to generate electricity and become true champions of a circular economy.

Aqwise also offers fully automated container wastewater units for plug-and-play applications, which can be seamlessly installed in remote villages. Recently, the company designed, built, and commissioned various container units in Slovakia, and is on its way to installing them in more locations.

Aqwise is harnessing the power of biofilms and leading the change in developing sustainable wastewater treatment, water reuse solutions, and remediation techniques

A year ago, Aqwise was acquired by GES Co., one of the veteran companies in the field of desalination, water, and wastewater treatment – with the intent of creating a leading international water technologies and wastewater treatment group. The purchase positioned the group as a dominant and leading player in its field.

It was a strategic move, joining the clout of both companies to form a leading global water and wastewater treatment technology group. Together, they plan to work on the desalination of industrial water and wastewater globally.

Today, Aqwise’s long-standing experience enables them to develop innovative and sustainable technologies for different industrial sectors, like food and beverage, pulp and paper, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas and aquaculture. With a global presence in 55 countries and growing, Aqwise wants to continue its path of offering innovative, economical, and sustainable treatment solutions that operate with minimal maintenance, workforce, and energy requirements.
